The end of June in Venice is pure magic. Warm air, blooming oleander trees, golden light reflecting on the canals – it’s the kind of atmosphere that feels made for love. For Nicholas and Paula, a young couple from Australia, this summer evening became one of the most unforgettable moments of their lives.
Nicholas had been secretly planning a surprise proposal in Venice, and reached out to me in search of a private, meaningful place far from the crowds. I knew just the spot: Ponte delle Erbe, a quiet little bridge in bloom – and the perfect setting for their love story to unfold.

Venice in late June can be crowded, but it still holds quiet corners full of charm. Nicholas wanted something peaceful and personal – a place that felt like theirs alone.
I scouted several hidden spots and suggested Ponte delle Erbe, a secluded Venice bridge framed by flowering oleanders and tucked away from the usual tourist path. He loved it. It was romantic, private, and full of colour – just right for the surprise proposal he’d been imagining.
The Big Moment: A Sweet Setup and a Perfect “Yes”
On the evening of the proposal, I waited on the bridge in character as a friendly tourist. When Nicholas and Paula arrived, he asked me to take a photo of them. Staying casual, I offered to help them pose – gently guiding Paula to take off her bag and positioning them in front of the canal and flowers.
Then came the cue: “This is perfect.”
And in the next second, Nicholas dropped to one knee.
Paula’s surprise was written all over her face – shock, joy, and happy tears. It was real, emotional, and absolutely beautiful.

They were so wrapped up in the moment that they barely noticed me taking photos. I asked for a few smiles, but most of the images were beautifully candid — full of laughter, tenderness, and that just-engaged glow.
A Second Surprise: Family Reunion from Across the World
As we stepped off the gondola, Paula had no idea what was coming next: both of their families were waiting nearby, having secretly flown in from Australia to celebrate. The joy was doubled — hugs, champagne, and a celebration full of love.
After a little time with their families, we snuck away for a few more portraits, then returned to join them again. It was a perfect evening of surprises, connection, and magic.
