Mauricio, the creative force behind House of Kirschner, was in Venice for the Art Biennale opening weekend – a moment when the city is electric with energy, fashion, and inspiration. He reached out for a last-minute shoot, and I instantly said yes. I knew this would be something different.
Solo Traveler Photography editorial style in Cannaregio
We met at the reception of his hotel which was located in Cannaregio – one of my favourite districts. Away from the crowds, its quiet facades and long shadows were the perfect setting for an editorial-style shoot – the kind where every image could be a magazine cover.
Mauricio arrived fully prepared: six outfit changes, each more striking than the last. Sharp tailoring, bold silhouettes, and details that spoke of design and intention – he didn’t just pose, he performed in the space, using the city as his backdrop.
Capturing a Creative Soul – Portrait Photography in Venice
What I loved most about this session wasn’t just the styling or the locations – it was the creative rhythm. Mauricio wasn’t there for “vacation photos” – he came to create. And together, that’s exactly what we did.
From fashion portraits in the alleys of Cannaregio to editorial shots drifting past Venetian palaces, this shoot was a reminder that great images don’t need big setups – just a great subject, some good light, and a city that inspires.
A Water Taxi Ride on the Grand Canal
After covering hidden courtyards and narrow alleys in Cannaregio, we boarded a water taxi for a final set of portraits on the Grand Canal.
The early afternoon light filtered through soft clouds, casting a moody, cinematic glow across the water and stone. The overcast sky gave us a palette of cool blues and gentle shadows – perfect for the editorial tone of the shoot.
On the boat, Mauricio moved with the confidence of someone who belongs in front of the camera – every turn of his head or gesture felt intentional, like something out of an editorial spread.
